It happens rarely that a bowler bowls equally well in both the innings of a test match i.e statistically he has identical figures in both innings- wickets taken as well as the runs conceded.

#DidYouKnow?

Bhagwat Chandrasekhar 6/52 was the highest identical* figure in a test match. Chandra’s spell OnThisDay guided Indian Cricket Team to their first test win on Australian soil. He broke Intikhab Alam’s record of 5/91 in each innings of the Dhaka test against BLACKCAPS.

*identical==same runs and wickets in both innings

The current record is held by SNJ O’Keefe, after the 2017 Pune test where he scalped 6/35 in each inn. FR Spofforth was quite close with match figures of 7/46 and 7/44 in 1890 The Oval test.

Lance Gibbs 2/133 in the 1960 Sydney test is the most expensive identical figure in each inns of a test match.

Shane Warne came close to achieve this feat when he had figures of 6/122 and 6/124 against England Cricket in the 2005 Kennington The Oval test. Long before Chandra way back in 1890 Frederick Martin like Warne (at same venue) missed the record by two runs as his spell of 6/50 and 6/52 was almost close to Chandra’s 6/52. Saqlain Mushtaq came close to achieve this feat(five wickets and same runs in both innings) in the famous 1999 Chennai Test. He missed by a whisker as he followed his 5/94 in the first inning with 5/93 in the second innings.

Imran Khan (official) 8/58 and 6/58 against Sri Lanka Cricket in 1982 Lahore, Pakistan test is best bowling figure in terms of total wickets taken and same runs conceded in both innings.

Some of the other events where bowler scalped at least 10 wickets in the match and conceded equal runs in both inns. Anil Kumble 4/67 and 6/67 in the 1999 Kanpur Test, Shane Warne 7/94 and 4/94, 2002 Colombo test. The most recent one being Trent Boult 6/40 and 4/40 in the 2013 Wellington test.
