In the final over of the day, India lost the wicket of Virat Kohli but still ended high at 99/3, trailed England by just 13 in the very first innings after Day 1 of the Pink Ball Test. For the third wicket, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma produced 64 runs, although it was spin bowler Jack Leach, who ended the vital partnership more toward the end of the day to carry some successes to the England camp.

After England was crushed out in the second session for a meager 112, both Kohli and Rohit displayed clever batting abilities beneath lights in the final session after India lost opener Shubman Gill (11) and Cheteshwar Pujara (0) in quick order.

During his 12th Test fifty, though Rohit looked majestic, Kohli too tackled with the toughness to place England on the verge of giving up. But Leach broke the thriving relationship as India’s success in the first two sessions took a dive after a strength show.

Local boy Axar Patel was the highlight of the day, who took 6 for 38 to limit England to a relatively low total. Ashwin picked up three wickets too, while Ishant Sharma, a landmark man, also bagged a wicket.
