As the Border-Gavaskar Trophy was held dramatically, Ajinkya Rahane led India to a memorable victory in Australia. With Virat Kohli leaving after the first Test match due to paternity leave, he took over the captaincy.

During the epic triumph of the Indian team in Australia, Ajinkya Rahane won many fans with his astute captaincy, but he would like to make it very clear that Virat Kohli is the undisputed leader of this side and he is pleased to fill in when necessary.

In an interview, Rahane was asked that he will be the Vice-Captain of the Test Team against England again on February 5 with Kohli back in the saddle. So, are things going to be different now as he dons the vice captain’s hat again? To which he replied “Nothing changes. Virat was and still will be the Test team’s captain and I am his deputy. When he was gone, it was my job to lead the side and my duty to give my best for the success of Team India”

Rahane said it has always been smooth, commenting on his friendship with Kohli. I and Virat have always shared a strong bond. He has appreciated my batting time and time again. We both played memorable knocks in India and overseas conditions for our team. It only helped to get Virat at No.4 and me at No.5. We had a lot of partnerships. When I was going through a bad patch, my captain boosted my morale. It’s always comforting to know that you have his backing and you are then focused on giving your best without any worries.”
