Peshawar Zalmi won the third in a row on Saturday night in Karachi, knocking Islamabad United out for 118 and chased the target down with 17 balls to spare, showing that the strategy of winning the toss, deciding to bowl, and winning the match has worked ten times out of ten this season.

United’s deep batting line-up had performed admirably in their first two games, chasing down targets of 151 and 197 respectively, but they struggled against Zalmi’s pacemen Wahab Riaz and Saqib Mahmood, and only threatened to post a respectable total on a strong batting pitch. Thanks to a strong start from Alex Hales, they rushed to 38 for 1 after 4.2 overs.

After recovering from three fast wickets to reach 81 for 4 after ten overs, they proceeded to lose wickets at an alarming pace and were bowled out at the start of the 18th over.

Zalmi got off to a poor start in their chase, losing both openers in the first two overs and struggling to score against the new ball, but Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Shoaib Malik got them back on track before Haider Ali’s cameo, which included an 89-meter straight six off his first ball, put the game to rest.
