Mumbai Indians(MI) won the toss and elected to bat first against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Sharjah in the first of two IPL 2020 encounters on Sunday. There were two changes made by SRH as they brought in Sandeep Sharma and Siddarth Kaul in places of injured Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed.
Mumbai Indians did not start off in the best way as they lost skipper Rohit Sharma right in the first over while he edged a wide ball into the wicketkeeper. Suryakumar Yadav was looking in fine touch but he, too, gave away his wicket away cheaply. Quinton de Kock finally seemed to find his groove as he scored a well set 67 before he fell to Rashid Khan caught and bowled. Ishan Kishan was looking good too but departed without converting his 31 into big score. Pollard and Hardik were out on the pitch but they did not find the boundaries easily but Krunal Pandya came out and played a cameo, scoring 20 runs in the last 4 balls to push Mumbai past the 200-run mark and thanks to elder Pandya.
The batters of Hyderabad looked good starting off. Bairstow was looking dangerous before he fell for 25. Manish Pandey, too was getting in good touch. He was hitting the regular boundaries and getting the game on but played a silly shot and gave his wicket away cheaply. Kane Williamson too followed shortly after looking to be cheeky. He tried to play outside offstump but gave away his catch to the wicketkeeper. David Warner was their last hope standing. He started off slow, scored a fifty but couldn’t take the game till the end. He departed before the second drinks break and then Mumbai breezed through the remaining overs and won the game comfortably by 34 runs. Youngsters , Priyam Garg, Abhishek Sharma , Abdul Samad couldn’t lead the team to a comfortable victory as Boult , Bumrah , Pollard bowled superbly in the slogs.
Mumbai have wrapped up a very well rounded victory over Hyderabad and they now have won two games on the trot. Their bowling today has been very good as they have done well to not let Hyderabad past the 200-run mark at Sharjah, which is not an easy feat. Boult, Pattinson and Bumrah all scalped double wickets. Mumbai will be happy with this bowling performance as Sharjah is not a bowling-friendly pitch.
