The Birthday Boys

Well we all know today is Sachin Tendulkar birthday ,he did scored a splendid century on his 25th birthday .

This was not the first instance of batsman scoring century on his birthday coincidentally maestro childhood friend Vinod Kambli was the first one to achieve the feat in ODI cricket.The honours in Test cricket goes to Patsy Hendren who scored his career best 205 against Windies Cricket team in the Port of Spain test 1930.In the process he completed his 1000 runs for the tour.This remains the highest score by a batsman on his birthday and also one of the two double ton scored (other one was by Gillespie when he scored 201 in the Chittagong test(highest score by nightwatchman and also highest score by a batsman in his last match).Kambli achieved the feat on his 21st birthday smashing 100 runs off 149 balls against England Cricket and added 164 runs with his school friend for the fourth wicket.All though India failed to win this match Kambli entered the virgin territory..Overall eleven players have reached three digit figures on their birthday, in test cricket.On the other hand in ODI cricket only four cricketers have managed to score century on their birthday.The oldest one to achieve the feat in Test cricket was Patsy Hendren aged 41,while in ODI record his held by Sanath Jayasuriyaage 39 years.Jayasuria’s century off 55 balls remain the fastest century by a player on birthday.The youngest one in Test cricket to join the list was Chris Lewis who on his 25th birthday scored spirited 117 runs in England’s second inning while in ODI Kambli.The highest ODI score on birthday is 134 by little master in the Coca-Cola cup final.The last one to join the list in test and ODI format were Ramnaresh Sarwan and Ross Taylor(only one to do in World Cup). Alec Stewart is the only wicketkeeper to reach the milestone on his birthday.
