The upcoming week i.e. the first week of November is going to be one of the most exciting weeks for the cricketomanics. On one end there is the IPL playoffs which is likely to begin from the 1st week of November and on the other hand , it’s the women T20 challenge that’s gonna take place in Sharjah, UAE.
Just like the last year, even this year it’s the same old three teams that’s competing against each other.Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana and Mithali Raj have again been named as captains of Supernovas, Trailblazers and Velocity respectively for the 2020 edition of the Women’s T20 Challenge. The BCCI announced the schedule and the squads on Sunday (October 11) with the three round-robin games to be played on November 4, 5 and 7 while the final will be played on November 9.
The all-India Women’s Selection Committee named three squads consisting 15 members each, including four overseas players in each team. Srilanlan captain ,Chamari Athapaththu, Shashikala Siriwardene, Windies bowler Shakera Selman and Ayabonga Khaka of South Africa are part of Supernovas. Harry aka Harmanpreet Kaur is the skipper with Jemmimah Rogrigues as the vice captain of the Supernovas. International stars Priya Puniya, Anuja Patil , Radha Yadav , Arundhati Reddy, Poonam Yadav are a part of this team. Taniya Bhatia is the wicketkeeper for the side.
They also have some young talents in the form of Muskan Malik , Ayushi Soni and Pooja Vastrakar.
Shifting gears towards the trailblazers, this team is captained by the left handed southpaw , Smriti Mandhana. Indian All rounder, Deepti Sharma is the vice captain of the team. The allrounder from Barbados, Deandra Dottin is one of the exciting overseas in the team. Slow orthodox english spinner Sophie Ecclestone , Salma Khatun and Natthakan Chantham , the first Thailand cricketer to feature in the tournament are constitutes the overseas group of the team. Veteran Pacer , Jhulan Goswami is a part of this team. Young and talented Nuzhat parween is the wicket keeper for the side. 17 year old Richa ghosh of Siliguri is another exciting talent to watch out in the tournament. Punam Raut , Dayaln hemlatha , Harleen Deol, Rajeshwari Gaikwad and Kashvee Gautam are the other members of the team.
The velocities are led by Mithali Raj and Veda Krishnamurthy is the vice captain of the side. English allrounder Danielle Wyatt, kiwi all rounder Leigh Kasperek, SA allrounder Sune Luus and Bangladeshi pacer Jahanara Alam are part of the Velocity team. Ekta Bisht , Shikha Pandey , Shafali Verma , Devika Vaidya, Manali Dakshini,Murali Anagha , Meghna Singh are the others who constitute the squad. Sushma Verma is the wicketkeeper for the side.
Sophie Devine, Suzie Bates, Natalie Sciver, Stafanie Taylor, Amelia Kerr, Lea Tahuhu, Hayley Matthews are the overseas players from the previous season who aren’t part of the Women’s T20 Challenge this year. This is so as the Women’s Big Bash League which is starting from 25th October is clashing with the T20 challenge.
