Messier 87 was the first ever black hole to be photographed.

The Billy Murdoch teams last survivor of 1882 Ashes Sammy Jones highest score was 87. Australian cricket has a superstition connected with this number as it is 13 shy of 100. The origin is dated back to December 1929 when young Keith Miller was watching Bradman batting in the Sheffield Shield match at the MCG. Bradman was bowled on 87 by Victorian Harry Alexander although the actual score was 89.

The myth was encountered again when Miller playing district cricket for South Melbourne with Ian Johnson and Johnson was dismissed on 87. The story turned into folklore post World War II when Richie Benaud and Alan Davidson heard of it.

The first Australian batsman to score 87 runs was George Bonnor in 1883 Sydney test and last one is Marcus Stoinis in 2018 Perth ODI ( Tom Curran was player of the match for his fifer, his only one in int’l cricket). Clem Hill is the only one-two achieve this score twice.

Symonds and Haddin scored 87 against India in the Kochi ODI 2007, only scenario of two players scoring devil’s number in the same ODI match.

In test match there is only one instance Mike Atherton in second inns and Graham Gooch in 4th inns scored 87 runs against Australia in 1991 Adelaide test . Coincidentally in the third inns Devon Malcolm also conceded 87 runs
