Playing at University Ground, Lucknow on a jute-matting pitch Pakistan registered there maiden Test victory .Batting first India was reduced to 105,after a superlative bowling by Hussain and Fazal Mahmood.In reply Pakistan scored 331 runs mainly due to painstaking innings from Nazar Mohammed who batted for eight hours and thirty five minutes and notched up 124 runs.In due course he also became the first man to be on the field throughout an entire Test match.After a first inning deficit of 225 runs India started there second innings, but quickly they were reduced to 77/5.Except Lala Amarnath no one displayed any character and determination to stay on the crease.Indians were bewildered by Fazal’s bowling who ended with a match figure of 12/94.Pakistan won the match by an innings and 43 runs.

Pakistan Cricket Team comprised of players either from India or Lahore, Pakistan. Indian wicket-keeper Probir Sen was from Comilla East Pakistan and Pakistan counterpart Hanif Mohammad was from Junagadh India. Pakistan captain Abdul Hafeez Kardar and Amir Elahi started their career as Indian players. Indian Cricket Team captain Lala Amarnath learned his skills in the streets of Lahore. Other India born Pakistan player was Israr Ali from Jalandhar, India.Maqsood Ahmed from Amritsar, India.Waqar Hasan from Amritsar, India. Imtiaz Ahmed, Nazar Mohammad, Abdul Kardar, Anwar Hussain, Khan Mohammad, Amir Elahi, and star bowler Fazal Mahmood were all from Lahore. Gulabrai Ramchand was from Karachi, Gul Mohammad was from Lahore. Gul Mohammad later played for Pakistan.
