Over the last set of editions, the revival of the Capitals was unprecedented. Since disappointing results for a few years in previous seasons before 2019, they have counted on the youngsters to do miracles for them. Driven by the talented Shreyas Iyer, last year the team was able to feature in their first-ever IPL final. Most of their stars were kept and they also purchased 8 players at the IPL 2021 auction.

They purchased Steve Smith of Australia for only 2.2 crores. Sooner this year, Smith, who led the Rajasthan Royals in the following years, was released. In the forthcoming season, he will now play for DC.

In addition to Smith, Delhi Capitals also purchased Tom Curran of England for around 5.25 crore, which was their most costly bid. Delhi Capitals also invested the money on Sam Billings and Umesh Yadav at their base prices.
